California Christmas Bird Counts

DECEMBER 14, 2026 - JANUARY 5, 2027

Home Index Checklist Taxonomy Photo Checklist CBC's Birding

Participants are normally assigned to areas within a circle based on their skill at bird identification and endurance. National Audubon publish the count results online. Most counts are weather permitting so make sure you contact your compiler to verify that the count hasn't been postponed or cancelled.

I have been compiling these CBC lists for 27 years. Alison Sheehey compiles and funds this information, send pertinent info/updates to via email to:

natureali@gmail.com or Alex Coffey. Alex has been of invaluable assistant in finding dates and proofreading the page for the past few years.

NOTE TO COMPILERS: Something to consider, have a dedicated Gmail account and eBird account solely for the CBC. All counters can share their checklists to the

account with no compiler contact other than via phone and email.

Send CBC rare bird and special aspect reports to the California CBC editor, Dessi Sieburth, dessisieburth@gmail.com.

If you see a banded PELICAN please contact: International Bird Rescue - Blue-Banded Pelican Program with the data.

Other Banded Birds can be reported to: https://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/BBL/bblretrv/
