CARRIZO PLAIN NATIONAL MONUMENT

San Luis Obispo County

23 February 2003

Goldfields and Filaree looking north from Soda Lake Rd. just north of Goodwin visitor center.

My former husband and I discovered the Carrizo and Elkhorn Plains in the early 80's.  This magical place is home to endangered California Condors, Tule Elk, Pronghorn, wintering raptors, and all types of wildlife and wildflowers.  Leading a small field trip, my time was devoted to looking not photographing, but I did manage to shoot a few photos. I share these with you today. Below the photos you will find a list of plants in bloom and animals seen. All photos by Email Alison Sheehey ©  Nature Ali  All rights reserved.

We spent many hours exploring every nook and cranny long before President Clinton (a true patriot - yes, Clinton haters not like treasonous Bush) declared this a National Monument. We spent years and many millions protecting this place only to have Bush decide to despoil it with oil rigs so the selfish can continue to drive their Hummers. Now to all those inclined to email me hate letters, go away and leave clean air, water, and open space to those who are smart and altruistic enough to fight for it. Your buddies Bush, Pombo, and Roberts will destroy what is left of the environment soon enough. If you are too stupid to realize that, then you have no business on my website.
