I entered Arizona along Interstate 40 and headed up to the Grand Canyon via US 180 (Hwy 64) and then headed east on Hwy 64 through the Navajo Nation. On my way back after visiting my son and daughter-in-law, I visited the north rim of the Grand Canyon, via US 89A. The Vermilion Cliffs is one of the locations the Condor recovery program has released condors. Hundreds of ravens were mobbing the six condors I saw there. All told I saw 16 condors during my trip, 9 at Bright Angel in Grand Canyon, 1 on the Eastern side of the South Rim and 6 at Vermilion Cliffs.

I enjoyed meeting many Navajo on my trip but found it annoying that every scenic vista was blocked by vendors selling trinkets (I couldn't afford to buy from them all, but I really wanted to support them). The Navajo and Hopi Nations are beautiful places that have not been too despoiled by horrible pollution but it is very evident the Navajo are mostly very poor. I wish there was some way to support them without further damaging these wonderful cultures and lands.
