I arrived late in the afternoon of October 24th along the north rim. The visitor's center was still open but all of the other facilities had been closed for the season. The park ranger was really friendly and informative. I took the short walk out to Bright Angel Point where the view was as spectacular as along the south rim. Amazing that it is only ten air miles across but takes a full day to get from one rim to the other driving let alone walking (which I do not ever imagine attempting). The first photo on this page is of a deer, which a story about deer. I was walking along the rim trail trying to get nice shots of the sunset and did get a few I was pleased with, but one of the visitors let his dog loose and it chased the deer as I was walking back to my car. The deer and I collided as I was diving to get out of its way, I fell pretty hard on my good knee (I had surgery on the other 10 months earlier). I was so upset that the carelessness of people can do harm to others. Keeping pets on leashes is for their safety as well as the wildlife and other people too!

I was thrilled when I awoke the next day with the soreness almost gone, whew! I needed to walk around and search for the Kaibab Squirrel. I am a squirrel fanatic and really try to photograph all of the squirrels of an area (cause they run around during the day I guess). So, I walked around for a few hours trying to find this neat white-tailed squirrel and was rewarded with some great views... only problem is I was so tired the night before, I did not download my photos from the day before... of course, the squirrel decided to come within ten feet of me and stare at me right after I filled my flash card! Ah, always the way isn't it. ;-)

After downloading my photos, I drove to Point Imperial. It started snowing/drizzling the higher up I drove. Some really pretty meadows along the way with lots of different types of pine really make you realize how different the north and south rims are.

The Meadows before you reach the park boundary have cattle exclosures.

A forest fire in Williams is visible as the white puff along the horizon, it really caused a bad haze in the sky
