On to Stockton and the Central Valley
Bird Symposium. So many friends, Barbara, Bob, Kimball, John, Cheri,
David, Bruce, Les, Joanie, Waldo, Sue, and Bethie. So many people of
such acclaim and birding prowess, of any group of people these
people feel like family, and I am so happy to be among them. I enjoy
being among friends, but again, I am determined to fulfill my
mission of photographing the northern California Audubon Sanctuaries
and have yet to visit Bobelaine. Instead of joining my friends, I
head out in the morning solo to finish my task. I am not
disappointed with this lovely Yuba County sanctuary which is bounded
by orchards on one side and the Feather River on the other. A valley
oak riparian woodland, the sanctuary has several trails and a little
lake that was filled with egrets and cormorants. Wild grapes were
draping many trees with the rich red of fall foliage. Vultures and
hawks circled overhead. Woodpeckers, nuthatches, and titmice busily
foraged in the lush forest. Poison oak sneakily had lost its leaves
letting me know that I would remember this trip for weeks and maybe
months after it was over, itch, itch, scratch, scratch, :-? What is
an extremely allergic naturalist to do? |
